NEEDHAM – The title-hopeful Newton North boys volleyball team can usually shake off a sluggish start to make a strong bid for a win, on the road, against most programs.Two-time defending Div. 1 state champion Needham isn’t most programs.Using a combination of high-level serving and blocking, as well as another standout performance from Ethan McCarron, the unbeaten Rockets (20-0) took full advantage of an atypical start from the Tigers to end their Bay State Conference schedule with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-23) sweep Wednesday night.Newton North eventually climbed out of the hole it dug by the third set, but Needham is as hard to rally against as they come. McCarron finished with 14 kills, Luke Lorence added nine kills, and the Rockets secured their 65th straight win.“We’ve been working on (maintaining early leads),” said Needham head coach Dave Powell. “I was glad with the way we came out. We were on the attack, serving tough and blocking well. … Ethan was (also) really effecti...With undefeated Westford on ropes, game suspended until Thursday

HONOLULU (AP) — As Typhoon Mawar aimed its fury at Guam, residents facing terrifying winds and crashing waves from the strongest typhoon to hit the U.S. Pacific territory in decades had identical twin meteorologists to keep them informed — and to provide the outside world with a glimpse of the chaos unfolding on the remote island. The National Weather Service’s Guam office employs Landon Aydlett as its warning coordination meteorologist. His brother Brandon Aydlett is the science and operations officer. Together, the 41-year-olds tag-teamed Facebook Live broadcasts watched by thousands as Typhoon Mawar approached with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph (225 kph), wreaking havoc as residents lost power, internet and water service. Their colorful descriptions of the Category 4 storm painted a picture as they both took turns describing trees snapped like toothpicks, thrashing winds, nearly 2 feet (0.6 meters) of torrential rain and “whiteout conditions” outside the office wh...Elon Musk wants to build a digital town square. But his debut for DeSantis had a tech failure.

Elon Musk wants to turn Twitter into a “digital town square,” but his much-publicized Twitter Spaces kickoff event, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announcing his run for president, struggled with technical glitches and a near half-hour delay Tuesday. The billionaire Twitter owner said the problems were due to “straining” servers because so many people were trying to listen to the audio-only event. But even at their highest, the number of listeners listed topped out at around 420,000, far from the millions of viewers that televised presidential announcements attract. “There’s so many people,” said host David Sacks amid the disruptions. “We’ve got so many people here that we are kind of melting the servers, which is a good sign.”After it concluded without further disruptions, Musk, DeSantis and Sacks played off the event as a success, with Sacks quipping “it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish — and we finished really strong.”Musk a day earlier dubbed the event ...Man shot roommate after accusing him of eating the last Hot Pocket, police say

HAGATNA, Guam (AP) — Guam residents and officials emerged from homes and shelters Thursday to survey the damage done to the U.S. Pacific territory after a long night of hunkering down as Typhoon Mawar’s howling winds shredded trees, flipped vehicles and knocked out utilities. The central and northern parts of the island received more than 2 feet of rain as the eyewall passed, and most of Guam received about a foot of rain during the storm, said Brandon Aydlett, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. The island’s international airport flooded, and the swirling storm churned up a storm surge and waves that crashed through coastal reefs. “We are waking up to a rather disturbing scene out there across Guam. We’re looking out our door and what used to be a jungle looks like toothpicks — it looks like a scene from the movie ‘Twister,’ with trees just thrashed apart,” said Landon Aydlett, his twin brother and fellow NWS meteorologist. “Most of Guam is dealing ...Mattea Roach overcomes father’s death to finish second in ‘Jeopardy Masters’
